Social Media for Pet Groomers: 7 Tips to Grow Your Business
Running a grooming business is more than scissors and shampoo — today, it’s about visibility. Social media for pet groomers has become one of the most powerful tools professionals can use to attract new clients, build trust, and showcase their skills.
In a recent Paws, Posts & Profits webinar, Whitney Bullock — Certified Feline Master Groomer and owner of The Charleston Cat Groomer (175k+ followers on Instagram, 140k+ on TikTok) — shared how social media helped her transform her grooming shop into a thriving business. Her advice?
“You just gotta start. Every day you’ll get faster at editing and better at posting. It’s all practice.”
If you’re ready to grow your grooming business online, here are her seven proven tips to get you started.
1. Film Everything While You Work
You don’t need a professional setup. As Whitney explained: “Set your phone up while you’re grooming and just push record… at the end of the day, see if you have clips you could use.”
Even short, unpolished clips can become engaging content pieces — a quick transformation, a funny reaction, or a behind-the-scenes moment.
2. Share Transformations and Real Moments
Posts that show “before and after” glow-ups or pets being a little dramatic often perform the best. Whitney said, “People love to see cats being bad and screaming… and they love transformations, especially with older cats in rough shape who get their shine back.”
These posts tap into emotion — humor, surprise, or heartwarming relief — which makes them more shareable.
3. Reuse and Repurpose Your Content
Don’t feel pressured to reinvent the wheel every day. Save every clip and photo, then repurpose them later.
“You can repost things about every three to six months, and people will still comment,” Whitney noted. “Most people don’t remember what was posted yesterday.”
4. Pick One Platform First
Rather than spreading yourself thin, focus on learning one platform before branching out.
Whitney explained: “Everything should be focused on one platform… that’s where you’re going to stay, I would say for at least a year if you can.”
Instagram → Most loyal followers + better for conversions
TikTok → Younger crowd, strong discovery engine
Facebook → Community-driven, loyal but slower growth
YouTube → Education and long-form content
5. Post Consistently at Peak Times
Consistency is key. Whitney shared that “after three o’clock is our best posting time,” but emphasized that every groomer should check their own analytics.
Pro Tip: Always reshare your posts to Stories — that’s where your most loyal followers engage.
6. Engage Back — Messages Build Trust
One of the fastest ways to turn followers into paying clients? Respond to their questions.
“Lots and lots of people message us… and most are so surprised when we actually respond,” Whitney said. “Answering questions and messages is the most important because that’s what people want — they want to know you care enough to pay attention.”
7. Don’t Fear the Haters
Growth comes with criticism — and that’s okay.
“When you start getting a lot of comments from people who don’t like things, that’s when you know things are starting to happen,” Whitney explained.
Take negative comments as a sign of reach. Block or laugh them off — honesty and authenticity always resonate more than perfection.
