It should snap back in 1\u20132 seconds.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Gum Test<\/strong>: Gums should feel moist, not sticky or tacky.&nbsp;<br><em>Anything outside this window may indicate dehydration.<\/em>&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-bonus-tip-nbsp\"><br><strong>Bonus Tip:<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Familiarize your pet with having their vitals taken when they\u2019re calm and healthy. This not only helps in emergencies but can reduce vet visit stress, too. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aaha.org\/resources\/how-can-my-pet-have-stress-free-veterinary-visits\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Explore ways to desensitize your pet&#8217;s trip to the vet.<\/a>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>*For the most accurate measure, count each breath or heartbeat for a full 60 seconds. If you don\u2019t have the ability to count for that long, you can either: count for 30 seconds and multiply that number by 2, or count for 15 seconds and multiply by 4.&nbsp;<\/em><\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n<div aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><div class=\"d-none d-lg-block\" style=\"height:18px\"><\/div><div class=\"d-lg-none\" style=\"height:9px\"><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-common-summer-hazards-for-pets-nbsp\"><br><strong>Common Summer Hazards for Pets<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>As temperatures rise, pets face an increased risk from heat, sun, and outdoor surfaces. Heat Stroke and Exhaustion<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>What It Is<\/strong>: A dangerous rise in internal body temperature.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Symptoms<\/strong>: Excessive panting, drooling, weakness, vomiting, diarrhea, confusion, and sticky or discolored gums.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Note<\/strong>: Especially risky for brachycephalic breeds (like bulldogs or pugs). Move affected pets to shade, use room-temperature water on towels, placing them on the neck\/groin\/armpits, and call your vet ASAP.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n<div aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><div class=\"d-none d-lg-block\" style=\"height:10px\"><\/div><div class=\"d-lg-none\" style=\"height:5px\"><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-2-hot-pavement-and-surfaces-nbsp\"><strong>2. Hot Pavement and Surfaces<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>What It Is<\/strong>: Burns from walking on hot pavement, sand, or metal.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Symptoms<\/strong>: Redness, limping, blistered or raw paw pads.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Check<\/strong>: Place your hand palm-down on the surface for 7 seconds\u2014if it\u2019s too hot for you, it\u2019s too hot for your pet.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n<div aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><div class=\"d-none d-lg-block\" style=\"height:10px\"><\/div><div class=\"d-lg-none\" style=\"height:5px\"><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-3-hot-cars-nbsp\"><strong>3. Hot Cars<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>What It Is<\/strong>: Vehicles can act as insulators for heat, causing internal temperatures to rise higher compared to external temperatures. Even 70\u00b0F outside can become deadly inside a vehicle, and <em>quickly<\/em>.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Symptoms<\/strong>: Same as heat stroke\u2014look for heavy panting, disorientation, or collapse.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Reminder<\/strong>: Cracked windows and shade <em>do not<\/em> make it safe for a pet to be inside of a vehicle when it\u2019s hot out. Never leave pets unattended in the car, especially during the warmer months.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n<div aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><div class=\"d-none d-lg-block\" style=\"height:10px\"><\/div><div class=\"d-lg-none\" style=\"height:5px\"><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-4-sunburn-nbsp\"><strong>4. Sunburn<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Who\u2019s At Risk<\/strong>: Light-skinned, hairless, or recently shaved pets.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Symptoms<\/strong>: Redness, warmth, or blistering on exposed skin.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Prevention<\/strong>: Limit sun exposure during peak hours.
