Stay Passionate and Positive<\/b><\/h2>\n

As a hairstylist assistant, your team are going to be keeping an eye on your personality. A salon is an incredibly social place and how you act really matters.<\/span><\/p>\n

Some stylists even put the personality of their assistants before their skills! The general feeling is that you can learn new skills, but you can\u2019t learn a new personality.<\/span><\/p>\n

When you\u2019re at work, make sure you\u2019re always passionate and positive. Show that you\u2019re willing to work and you\u2019re happy with every task you\u2019re given. Definitely don\u2019t mope around feeling sorry that you\u2019re sweeping up hair and not cutting it.<\/span><\/p>\n

Make sure you\u2019re ready to absorb everything. When you\u2019re working with a stylist, watch what they\u2019re doing and if there\u2019s anything you don\u2019t know ask them at a convenient time. If you\u2019re doing a great job helping them, they should be more than willing to help you!<\/span><\/p>\n

If there\u2019s a particular job you want, such as colorist, do your best to learn everything about it when you\u2019re on the salon floor. Make sure your team knows you\u2019re ready to learn too. They can invite you over when they\u2019re doing a tricky job or something new so you can watch.<\/span><\/p>\n

If you want to become a professional stylist or colorist, you have to act like one. Even when you\u2019re a salon assistant you should always be trying your best to be professional.<\/span><\/p>\n

This means turning up <\/span>looking the part<\/span><\/a> every day. Your hair, clothes, and makeup should be in line with your salon\u2019s guidelines and look professional. It\u2019s not a good start if your hair\u2019s a mess in a hair salon!<\/span><\/p>\n

Follow the rules of your salon, don\u2019t spend the whole day gossiping, and keep your phone away. It\u2019s likely that you\u2019ll be being watched closely, and even a little slip like scrolling through social media when you\u2019re working could damage your chances. <\/span><\/p>\n
